In the past Klöntal was a health resort in Glarnerland with spa houses at Vorauen, the end of the lake.  Seventeenth century authors and artists were drawn to this valley, with stunning views of Lake Klöntal and the surrounding mountains reflecting in its waters.

The steep cliffs of the Glärnisch mountain are reflected in the lake.  Locals and visitors can fish, swim, row or camp in this beautiful locality.  For hikers there are paths ranging from fairly flat walking to mountain hikes that take several hours.
